Abstract

The purpose of this case report is to demonstrate the maxillofacial orthopedic effects of microimplant-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) in a non-growing skeletal Class III patient. A non-growing female patient with hyperdivergent Class III skeletal malocclusion and bilateral posterior crossbite was successfully treated using maxillary skeletal expansion and comprehensive orthodontic approach without surgical intervention. Transverse discrepancy was solved by MARPE, and sagittal discrepancy was improved by distalization of the whole mandibular dentition. Additionally, maxilla was moved forward, and downward, and paranasal deficiency was improved. Anterior open bite was improved with extrusion of the maxillary and mandibular incisors, which increased upper incisor exposure when smiling. After treatment, her occlusion, smile esthetics, and soft tissue profile were significantly improved.
